5 Facts you should know about

Heterochromia

fivefacts-light.svg

1

Heterochromia is a condition characterized by a difference in coloration of the iris (the colored part of the eye), resulting in variations in pigmentation, causing one eye to be a different color than the other or parts of the same iris to have different colors

2

There are two primary types of heterochromia: complete heterochromia (where each iris is a distinctly different color) and sectoral or partial heterochromia (where there are variations or spots of different colors within the same iris)

3

It can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired due to injuries, diseases, or syndromes such as Waardenburg syndrome or Horner syndrome

4

Heterochromia is generally harmless and does not usually affect vision. However, it can be associated with certain eye conditions or syndromes that may require medical attention

5

Treatment is often unnecessary unless it's related to an underlying condition. People with heterochromia might use tinted contact lenses for cosmetic purposes
